Celebrating over 50 years of supporting beautiful skin care is an achievement of which to be proud. Creating products that are kind to the environment is even more reason for pride. Éminence is committed to being the industry leader in keeping our planet green and has always been concerned about the environment; since its inception in 1958, the company has been using sustainable farming and green practices to create organic products—long before the green movement was hot. Éminence is constantly looking for ways to reduce its carbon footprint, from the harvest and production of products to how they are packaged and, finally, how they reach spa clients.
Over the past years, Éminence has stepped up its green factor by enlisting wind and solar power energy in the making of products, using recyclable packaging, vegetable-based inks in printing, FSC certified post-consumer recycled paper and with our Beyond Organic line created with Biodynamic® farming practices. The company is committed to providing the best quality skin care while being environmentally responsible.
The ingredient farm in Hungary is powered by solar and wind energy, and geothermal heating is used in the laboratory. Both planting and harvesting are done by manual labor, which produces little to no carbon dioxide in comparison to traditional mechanical means, and only natural plant preservation techniques, such as honey traps, are used instead of harsh toxic chemical pesticides.
Once harvested, Éminence products are packaged in boxes made from post-consumer recycled material and plastic containers made of recycled, non-toxic plastic, both of which can be recycled at any local recycling depot. The wooden boxes are also made from post-consumer recycled material, and retail stands are crafted from renewable resources. Even packing chips are made of corn and dissolve harmlessly under running hot water.
In the Éminence warehouse, all packing boxes that are received are reused and recycled. And, the new eco-friendly software system eliminates the need for printed invoices, saving 15 to 20 trees per year.
To deliver Éminence products, a local courier company uses environmentally friendly hybrid vehicles that reduce emissions up to 50 percent when compared to conventional cars. Even the office staff receives green transportation support—92% of our workforce, including the president, use public transit, walk, bike, or run to and from work every day.
Éminence is located in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia, one of the “World’s Top 10 Cities to Live In” according to The Economist Intelligence Unit. Éminence participates in many community and international initiatives, such as donating to local park rejuvenation projects, planting trees, and funding wind power energy creation. Éminence does its part to keep the community environmentally healthy by offsetting electricity usage with wind power credits and printing letterhead on FSC certified post-consumer recycled paper using vegetable-based inks. Approximately two tons of paper is recycled each year, which is equivalent to providing heat and hot water to two homes for one year, or saving 30 trees, five barrels of oil, 63 gallons of water, or 50 kilograms of air pollutants per year.
Our green office space has been designed as an eco-alternative building with floors and building materials made primarily of renewable resources, efficient lighting and heating sources - including solar panels on the roof, and flat-screen computer monitors that use 50 percent less electricity then regular monitors are incorporated into the office as well.
